As the nation prepares to mark 250 years since the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence, the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) will explore the enduring power of words — and the future of media.

NFPW’s 2026 Communications Conference, themed “Ink, Influence, Innovation: Communicating at 250,” will take place Sept. 24–26 at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, Maryland. The event marks a historic first: in the organization’s 89-year history, Maryland will host the national conference for the first time.

Founded in 1937, NFPW is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and advancing communications professionals and students across journalism, public relations, marketing, photography, design, and digital media. The annual conference is open to members and non-members, women and men, and draws professionals at every stage of their careers.

“As we approach this historic milestone in our nation’s story, we celebrate the power of words that shaped a revolution — and the communicators who continue to shape what comes next,” said Lisa Volz, NFPW executive director. “From the ink that launched a new democracy to the innovations transforming media today, this conference honors our legacy while looking boldly ahead.”

NFPW President Debbie Miller added that the setting is especially meaningful. “We are thrilled to bring our national conference to historic Maryland — a place deeply connected to our nation’s founding principles and the First Amendment. We invite journalists, media professionals, students, and storytellers of all kinds to join us for a gathering that celebrates excellence and explores what’s next.”

The conference will feature a dynamic lineup of speakers and panel discussions addressing some of the most pressing issues in communications today, including:

• Artificial intelligence and emerging digital business models
• Journalists transitioning to long-form and creative writing
• Online safety and advocacy in an evolving media landscape
