Veteran freelancer Ruth E. “I can write about anything!”® Thaler-Carter will share insights gained from more than four decades as a successful independent communications professional. Participants will learn how to determine whether freelancing is the right fit, establish a business, manage time and client expectations, negotiate contracts, market their services, and access valuable resources for long-term success.
Thaler-Carter has freelanced professionally since high school and full-time since 1984 following in-house positions with a weekly newspaper, international magazine, business trade association, and public hospital. Her work has appeared in newspapers, magazines, newsletters, books, and blogs covering subjects ranging from business and communications to education, public policy, gardening, and the arts.
An active leader in professional communications organizations, Thaler-Carter is widely known as the “Queen of Networking” for her extensive involvement in NFPW, its state affiliates, and numerous national professional associations. She is also the author and co-author of several respected books on freelancing and editing, including “Get Paid to Write! Getting Started as a Freelance Writer” and “Freelancing 101: Launching Your Editorial Business.”
