Arkansas Press Women’s annual communications contest is open for business. NFPW has updated the contest site for 2018, posting the categories and rules, along with instructions for preparing and uploading your entries.

Here are some things you need to know to participate:

The contest is open to all APW members and to non-members who live in Arkansas.

Being a member of APW gives you two advantages:

1) You pay a lower per-entry fee in the state contest

2) If you win first-place in the state-level competition, your entry advances to the national competition. (Non-members can join after learning they’ve won a first-place state award, if they want their entry to advance to the national competition.)

If you’d like to pay the member rate, just join APW and NFPW now. You’ll pay dues for 2018, but your membership begins immediately, so you can register for the contest as a member.

To be eligible for the 2018 contest, your work must have been published between Jan. 1, 2017 and Dec.  31, 2017.

Entry deadline: Midnight (CST) on Feb. 6, 2018. You can save up to $25 on your entry fees by entering before the early bird deadline, which is Jan. 23, 2018.

Fees: Members pay $10 for their first entry and $5 for each additional entry. Non-members pay $25 for their first entry and $20 for each additional entry.

First step: Click on the purple “Registration” button in the upper right corner of the page when it opens and fill out the registration form. Make sure you are in the 2018 version of the contest, select Arkansas as the state contest that you are entering, and indicate whether or not you are an APW member to ensure that you are charged the correct fee.

Next step: Review the rules and the categories, then select your best work to enter. Remember that the entry requirements and judging criteria vary by category. Please read the instructions for each category you plan to enter carefully before preparing and uploading your entries.

Submit your entries and get recognition for your great work!

Final step: Share information about the APW contest with your colleagues and encourage them to enter. Contest season is a great time to spread the news about the benefits of APW membership!

The contest site includes a helpful FAQ page that should answer most of your questions as you begin the process. If you don’t find your answer online, please contact Helen Plotkin at haplotkin@outlook.com and she’ll do her best to track down the answer you need.
