The National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) has launched a new professional development series that will feature quarterly virtual professional development sessions designed to support member growth and success.
These engaging, expert-led sessions will cover timely topics in communications, journalism, and career advancement, all while giving members convenient access to valuable learning opportunities no matter where they are. Whether you’re looking to sharpen your skills, stay current on industry trends, or connect with fellow professionals, this new series is another way NFPW is investing in you.
The inaugural session will feature Shanita Baraka Akintonde, MBA. M.Ed., DTM. She is an author, keynote speaker, podcast host, and communication strategist. Akintonde is a contributing author of four books, as well as the author of her solo book project, “The Front Porch Leader: Great-Grand’s Recipe for Success,” a narrative that blends storytelling, leadership, and cultural legacy.
A long-time professor and nationally recognized voice in marketing, advertising, and public relations, Akintonde has written for Forbes, The Chicago Defender, and numerous other publications. Her work centers on voice, identity, and the power of personal story.
Akintonde will present the session, “Front Porch Ready: Turning Lived Experiences Into Publishable Work,” on Tuesday, July 14, at noon (Central time). Drawing from her book, she will introduce the “front porch” both as a metaphor and a method – an accessible space where stories are shared, and wisdom is passed down.
NFPW members can attend all sessions at no cost. Prospective members are also invited to experience the value of the series by attending one session for free. You can register for the session by visiting this website.
