Bill Shrum gives back to his community in many ways, from working at the local newspaper to serving on the city council. Now the Arkansas Press Women member gives back in another way: raising money for high school journalists to go to college.
Two years ago, the Bill Shrum/Journalism Scholarship began to award a scholarship to a senior graduating from Stuttgart High School. Shrum is the chief fundraiser.
Chances are sold on items provided he or a local merchant provides. Several high school teachers help choose the scholarship recipient. There have been two recipients, one recipient in 2016 and another one in 2017. Both young ladies took journalism as an elective at Stuttgart High School.
