Maudine Sanders continues to give back to Arkansas journalists a decade after her death through the annual Arkansas Press Women scholarship.

APW is now accepting applications for its 2021 scholarship open to students majoring in journalism or communications at an Arkansas college. Rising juniors and seniors qualify for applying for the $1,000 scholarship.

“We see this scholarship as an investment in our future,” said APW President Kristin Netterstrom Higgins. “Not only our profession’s future, but our country’s future as freedom of information and holding government accountable are key ingredients to our democracy.”

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is April 9, 2021. Download the application. Visit our scholarship page for more information.

Sanders, a previous APW president, at one time owned the Morning News of Northwest Arkansas in Springdale. APW was established in 1949 by Arkansas newspaper women interested in networking and competition. APW is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women.

More than 70 years later, APW supports communicators of all kinds and membership is open to women as well as men.
